1. Culture Exchange Programs

1.1. Summer & Winter Exchange for Students & Children

Spanish and Chinese students will travel and study abroad during their summer and winter vacations. This program contains learning materials with enriched culture, art, and language contents adapted for children. It allows young Spanish and Chinese the opportunity of immersing themselves in a new society and among new people across the Eurasian continent. Children participating the program will gain extensive knowledge about their host country through lecture, classroom presentation, cultural events, and interaction with local students and residents.

1.2. Exchange Program for Teachers of the Spanish Language and of Mandarin Chinese

In response to the growing demand for learning Spanish and Mandarin Chinese, more and more language trainers are devoted to the teaching of Mandarin Chinese or Spanish as foreign language.

Teaching Chinese as foreign language to Spaniards is relatively straight forward: the majorities of the teachers are native Chinese speakers who either live in China or reside in Spain. These two groups of teachers, however, might have different perceptions about what language need their students have. For instance, the learning emphasis of students learning Chinese in Spain might be bases on understanding of the language in general without the urge of real-life communication. However, when study the same language in China, on top of these basic understanding of the language, students usually have their specific profession in mind and experience communication challenges on a daily basis. We believe that both learning needs are important and should be met in the learning process. The more understanding a teacher has about the needs of students, the more effective teaching the students can receive.

Teaching Spanish as foreign language to Chinese students is a little more complicated: In Spain the majority of the Spanish teachers is native Spanish speakers, whereas in China, the majority is native Chinese. Each of the two has its strengths as well as weaknesses when teaching is concerned. On the one hand, the teaching group consisting mainly native Spanish speakers has un-matched advantages in their knowledge on everyday usage of the language, but might not be fully aware of the specific needs of the students on grammatical understanding of the language. On the other hand, the teaching group consisting mainly the native Chinese, who themselves have been trained to master and teach Spanish as a foreign language, can communicate very well with their students about their learning needs but is likely deficient in the knowledge of the variations of the daily use of the language. When the two teaching strengths are combined, a great improvement is teaching efficacy is likely achievable.

Our teaching exchange programs are designed for teachers of the Spanish language or of the Chinese language to participate in the teaching activities in a guest institute across the Eurasian continent. The goal is to provide them with a platform to exchange and enrich teaching experience during their visit, ultimately provide high quality of service of foreign language teaching to students.

1.3. Visiting Artists Program

Arts have been fighting for survival both in Spain and in China, although for different reasons: the economic difficulty makes arts an unaffordable luxury in Spain, whereas economic boom makes people pay little attention to issues unrelated to immediate economic gain. Arts, however, is one of the only few treasures created by human kinds that are able to be passed from generations to generations and resonate among peoples from vastly different cultural background.

Our Visiting Artists Program is designed to bring together the Spanish and Chinese artists, and promote the awareness and appreciation of the art forms from one country in the other.
